Flip Explorer combines an interactive online search interface, 3D tagcloud, and timeline widget, with a natural and familiar reading environment for mashups of digital knowledge collections. The user interface has been designed to present as a ‘book’, where pages displaying parts of a collection can be read and easily browsed as you would any physical book. For the MashupAustralia contest, Flip Explorer uses the Powerhouse Museum Collection dataset, as well as the museum’s picture library. Search results are organised chronologically and indexed by time period for ‘timeline’ browsing.

Part one: 16 MashupAustralia lists in NeoGopher.
NeoGopher is a universa data browser developed in Melbourne, Australia and is designed to allow browsing of an HTTP web based API. NeoGopher is the intersection of linked data and the web. We have created 16 NeoGopher lists, each list presenting a data set from data.australia.gov.au. To see our MashupAustralia lists, download NeoGopher http://www.neogopher.com/downloads.shtml

Part two: 26 HTTP web based APIs.
We have converted CSV and XLS data from data.australia.gov.au into 26 HTTP web based XML APIs. These APIs are accessible by the public and support Xquery access including searching, sorting, paging and return compressed XML.

To promote cycling as a mode of transport you need good cycling infrastructure. To build that infrastructure, we need to know where people cycle and how many, so it can be constructed appropriately and effectively.

Cyclist trip counts acquired by electronic counters around Sydney have been hiding in an old and dusty Excel file. They have now been transformed, so they can be placed in their proper context, on a web based map where they belong. This data can be used to ascertain the need for new infrastructure or how any new infrastructure has increased the number of cyclists on particular routes. This assumes you also have the routes mapped and they are free for reuse.

The prime purpose here is to encourage Government departments around Australia to make cyclist routes available, as geo served maps, that are licensed for reuse. Likewise there are hundreds of cyclist count sites in Melbourne and Sydney that could be made available for reuse.

The Public Web Locator plots the location of all public web enabled libraries on the map of Australia.

Clicking on a particular location, brings up a window that describes the main features of the library such as name, location, cost of using the internet, opening hours and other facilities available.

To obtain driving directions to a particular library, enter the address of a library in the search box and click on search. The user will be asked to specify the starting point of travel.

Thus, the public web locator makes it easier for patrons to view all web enabled libraries or spots in their area and make an informed choice on deciding which one to use.
