Currently this uses the Commonwealth Agency data released by the National Archives and the goal is to link this to all the other datasets that have been released.

This makes EasyData a perfect tool for the staff of local government, regional development bodies, government agencies, and community associations, to substantiate grant writing, regional profiling, strategic planning, program evaluation, and evidence-based policy making.

EasyData is now the single, largest source of web-based information for South Australia’s metropolitan and rural regions. Used in conjunction with SA’s Strategic Plan, EasyData empowers communities to set regional targets and monitor performance against them.

Part one: 16 MashupAustralia lists in NeoGopher.
NeoGopher is a universa data browser developed in Melbourne, Australia and is designed to allow browsing of an HTTP web based API. NeoGopher is the intersection of linked data and the web. Part two: 26 HTTP web based APIs.
We have converted CSV and XLS data from data.australia.gov.au into 26 HTTP web based XML APIs. These APIs are accessible by the public and support Xquery access including searching, sorting, paging and return compressed XML.

By comparing proximity to essential and emergency services with suburb profiling data provided by the ABS, Australians now have a unique opportunity to research their next move.

How Safe Is Your Suburb embraces the Gov 2.0 philosophy by opening up a static dataset to the public in a useful way. The user can analyse and play with the data, comment on data, and then share their data with others.

For example, the user can choose different ‘reports’, make selections within each report to compare different types of crime over time, and then see which types of crime are more prevalent in their area. They can view an interactive thematic map of crime that provides a spatial visualisation of crime types across LGAs for a given year. They can also identify which suburbs have higher crime rates in total and in per-head of population. (It makes sense that there is more crime in more populous areas). Users can make comments on each visualisation they are working on.

The application mashes up NSW crime data with LGA boundary files and Census data from ABS. Space-Time Research has classified each offence into different categories to enable simpler analysis. More detail could be added to the application at a later date.

The application is built using Space-Time Research’s SuperVIEW product, and is hosted on the Google App Engine. In the spirit of a govhack style competition, our team of three (one database builder, one programmer, one analyst / writer) started working on the application just over 24 hours before it was due.

The excel file is read, parsed and served up via a public webservice.

Inside the application users are able to gain an overview of the crime statistics in a graphical way. The data may be visually digested via a map / bar / pie charts and as a raw data set.

Users may compare cities and filter the different crime incident types to display the required data.

Key elements:

• Provide the excel dataset available in a more useable format (XML) available to the public via a consumable webservice.
• Provide an intuitive and interactive way to view datasets.
• Provide a number of graphical ways to view a single dataset
