“Fire Up The Barbie” is an all Aussie app that lets us Aussies do what we do best – organise and cook up a barbie!
The application let’s you search for a bbq in ACT & QLD (more data to come, as we have mined data for all states) and organise an event for it on Facebook, all details are passed to Facebook where you can create the event and invite your friends.
Weather details are also provided.

Wahoo it’s up! guys (and girls) I only started work on this app this Monday, seriously pushed the boundaries here.
I still have some more data to import, and I also got another 100 bbq spots from VIC, SA and other places to import. It’s still a bit buggy, but hey – it’s done in 4 days!
I’ve also chosen to integrate it with facebook so it will be spread as an app, and people can add it to their profile, and whenever they feel like a barbie they just Fire Up The Barbie app, select a spot and invite their friends!
PS. I know there is another BBQ app out there, but I promise I had no idea of its existence till now.
I just added the API for the Barbie, it returns JSON
http://www.fireupthebarbie.com.au/api.cfm
I will be adding the API for ColdFusion and other services soon.
Also fixed a few hairy bits.
I added directions and published that this morning. The IP locator also zooms in on the users location on the map.
I’ve still got about 250 BBQ locations to add (manually) and allow users to edit plus add bbqs
Just added the weather forecast.
Great idea …just to add my 2 cents worth
- Is their undercover??? is a major consideration when determining an outdoor BBQ just incase it pours
- Disability access to the venue
Great suggestion, I will add that. Cheers
Love the app, especially the integration with social network facebook, great way to make app spread across Australia and get people to interact with the data.
