Pitney Bowes FireLocator federates and integrates the most current data from multiple sources to provide a seamless user experience. These datasets include the Rural Fire Service in NSW, Country Fire Authority in Victoria, satellite hotspots from Geoscience Australia’s Sentinel, as well as Australian Bureau of Statistics 2006 Census population figures showing the potential impact of a fire on the community. The aim of this site is to provide a public service that shows locations of all bush fire emergencies across Australia, helping the public to be well informed during a fire emergency. A user can search for their house and see fire fronts (NSW RFS and Vic CFA), fire hot spots (Geoscience Australia), get an understand of the population that maybe affect by a fire (ABS data), and see Flickr photo’s of fire information. The incorporation of weather information is planned for the future. All the raw data is collated by the solution and plotted on a map so all users can enter a street address or town to visually see the threat that the location is under and quickly put in place contingency planning. The website draws on imagery sourced from Flickr, to show geo-tagged photos of the bushfires and their aftermath to give a sense of the situation on the ground. This website was originally established during the 2009 Victorian fires as a public service. All data feeds have been established through agreements with the relevant agencies. This same concept has been implemented in the US for the Californian wildfires.

Chaps just a quick heads up, nothing’s loading in my browser (firefox), I’m presented with a blank page with the “feedbacl” pull-out tab.
Do you have Silverlight installed? Just visit http://silverlight.net if you need it.
