The Frog Atlas takes digital recordings of frog calls collected by community members, along with information about when and where the recordings were collected. These recordings are then analysed and added to the state government’s fauna database to provide information about the distribution of frogs in SA.

The state government database has ~6700 records collected through biological surveys with the community collected frog recordings adding more than 21 000 additional records (collected through the Environment Protection Authority’s Frog Census, and the Frog Atlas).

Due to the number of records needing to be shown on the map, we are still working on making all the frog records visible on a single map which would then be viewable without a login. At the moment people can only view their own records by logging in to the website.

As well as mapping all of the frog records, the next stage will enable people to learn the calls of the frogs in their region, and then analyse the calls themselves.
