My Solar Saver mashes together a variety of data relating to solar hot water that people can display for the area in which they live, with the aim of inspiring people to install solar hot water systems on their homes. It shows people how much they could save off their hot water bill and how much they can save the planet in reduced carbon emissions. It also hooks people up with solar hot water system retailers in their area plus feeds in posts from a discussion forum on the topic of solar hot water.

My initial problem with this site was having to work out based on region as a drop down.

Call it blatant self-promotion, but mixing in geo2gov to allow location to be generalised out to address and postcodes and the like might have been useful.

Another issue was that most of the content, especially the fonts, is very very small. My eyes aren’t always the best, and I found myself squinting a bit. You could probably have recovered some of the copious blank space in the layout and used that space to show the content in larger fonts.

Finally, the list of suppliers is quite large.

It might have been handy to see where they were on a map, so I could locate one that was convenient to me, rather than just having a big list.

In summary, it’s getting there but needs another pass over the site to optimise the layout and deal with some other look and feel improvements.

Hey Adam – thanks for the constructive criticism. All good ideas. Perhaps to be incorporated in Release 2. Cheers.
